Steven Freeman

Steven F. Freeman has a distinguished and extensive career as a professor at several prestigious universities, where he has made significant contributions to academia through innovative teaching, research, and public outreach. His tenure at the University of Pennsylvania (2000–2022) stands out, where he held faculty appointments at the Wharton School, the School of Arts and Sciences, and other centers. At Penn, he developed and taught highly rated courses, created award-winning teaching materials, and conducted groundbreaking research on topics such as organizational resilience and employee ownership. His work has been widely recognized, with papers among the most downloaded in the Penn Scholarly Commons Digital Library.

Freeman's academic journey also includes roles at other renowned institutions. He served as a Professor of Management at INCAE (1998–2003), Latin America's premier international business school founded by Harvard Business School, where he trained regional leaders and contributed to executive education. Additionally, he was the Karel Steuer Chaired Professor in Entrepreneurship at Universidad de San Andrés (2002), the only such professorship in Latin America. Earlier in his career, he was a Teaching and Research Assistant at MIT's Sloan School of Management (1994–1998), working with luminaries such as Peter Senge and Eric von Hippel. His career reflects a deep commitment to bridging theory and practice, fostering innovation, and addressing real-world challenges through academic rigor.

After being a student himself at some of the most prestigious universities in the world (MIT, University of Pennsylvania – Wharton School of Business), consulting and commissioning research for some of the most prestigious companies and consulting firms, and a thirty-year career as a professor, Dr. Freeman started Purple Orange Life with the goal of working with vetted international students and US universities as a conduit to further develop his research and methodologies, with the goal of spreading this knowledge globally.
